New heroes and protagonists were introduced to solve the Ant problem, including godlike Hunters and fringe bystanders that supplied their own direct impact on this grand plot. Expert Answers: The chimera ant arc does start off a little slow and doesnt get good until the main antagonist of the arc is introduced imo. In this arc, however, the cast downright exploded: a whole gaggle of new antagonists with unique goals, powers, personalities, and character traits were introduced in the form of the Chimera Ants, a faction of intelligent and terrifying creatures evolved to take on the traits of those who were eaten prior to their birth. The two boys eventually become involved with the Extermination Team from the Hunter Association sent to deal with the unprecedented threat to humanity. Hisoka was the antagonist of the first two arcs and had heavy involvement in Yorknew City and Greed Island. Their underutilization is an issue pertaining to all of Hunter x Hunter, not just the Chimera Ant Saga. Prior to this arc, HxH was continually expanding its cast of named, relevant characters, each having unique and important relationships with either main or side characters. As the longest arc, it follows Gon and Killua as the former reunites with Kite and their group learns that a species known as Chimera Ants is feasting on humans. Kurapika and Leorio being absent from the arc is nothing new, and was a problem in Heavens Arena and Greed Island.

Now, for this arc, the cast has expanded to an insane degree.
